Farming Billions of Gold in Diablo 3

I have made over one billion gold per day since the latest patch 1.0.8. We use some tricks to turn our dollars back into gold on the forums and gold guide, but even without them, you should be making several hundred million gold. I expect this weekend to be just another continuation of the great streak I've been having in Diablo 3.

Why are items selling more often? Well, gold actually makes sense to buy at the moment, and is not stuck at the minimum price for once! Now you can buy 10 million gold at a time, which goes for around 30 cents. Since that's 5 cents above the minimum, then gold truly has value right now and people are willing to buy/sell at that price! (we on the forum aren't, but that's a story for another day).

Another reason for the increased sales is a throng of players coming back to the game. I believe that many of them are happy with the increased magic/gold find changes for grouping together. They could also be excited about the PvP, which many returning players probably haven't seen yet. Just look at your friends list and see the large number of people showing up for a change!

Do You Pick Up Flawless Square Gems?

You should pick up flawless square gems. They sell near instantly during prime time on your server, and you can effectively store up to 10,000-30,000 gold x 100 per slot. That's a lot of cash you might be throwing away if you don't pick up flawless square gems. Since gems can be created by combining 3 of a lower tier plus jewelcrafting tomes/pages, the lesser quality square gems are also quite valuable (considering that they take up a super small amount of space).

I also pick up tomes, pages, essences, etc because they sell instantly and take up one square in your inventory. Once you get to a full stack, they are worth far more than most random items you pick up and identify. To top it all off, those random items are probably two slots as well.

Hopefully you aren't passing up on these items because individually they aren't worth very much. It's the same as not running over and grabbing the gold drops from a hoard of mobs.Your Gold Guide is Waiting!

Breaking the 3 Billion Gold Mark

"Hey Markco,

I would love to tell you about my time with Diablo III and my time after i finally got up the guts to buy your guide.
I started out late in D3 as i was broke and unable to afford the game. One income family with my wife in school, I had to collect beer cans to buy the game but had an older laptop to play the game on. When a friend quit playing he gave me the 1.5 mil that he had saved and with that I played around on the AH to see how it worked. I found some low level weapons to flip and found that could be quite profitable but not going to pay any bills. 
I found your blog and was able to use some of the tips you had there and make even more. I talked to my wife and said listen if i buy this guide that we don't have the money for i am sure i could make enough money back from it that it will pay for itself.
Pay for itself it did. Within 2 days of purchase I had made enough to pay back the house. My next goal was to buy a computer that would easily handle the game play and provide my family with a second machine to be able to play and have her be able to work on school work at the same time.
Over the months I was able to save up $600 pay for the CPU and a new monitor to play on. Also the $ to Gems to Gold idea has bolstered my Gold totals to over 3 Billion... although it is a little lower now since i was able to buy a sweet Unity for my Barb.

Cain's Memory Just a Memory

I have sold over 100 Cain's Memory two weeks ago after the crazy patch 1.0.8 influx of players. Now things are starting to settle back to normal, and although I can still sell just as many Cain's Memory, I really can't make more than 100,000 gold per item. Previously I was earning 600,000 - 800,000 gold per piece with a socket in it.

Why did this item sell so well? Because people made new characters or returned to the game. Guide owners knew to target low level players when patch 1.0.8 came out, and I actually did a ton of videos on randomly identifying rares farmed just prior to the patch.

Hosting Issue

EDIT: We're back up and running! So happy I didn't have to cancel hostgator and get a new provider. That would have take twice as long as we were down for. I'll work on figuring out a way to quickly add 1 month to all members. Thanks everyone!

Recently Hostgator migrated one of my accounts (including the Diablo 3 Forums) but they made a mistake with the migration, so the hosting server isn't responding correctly to php calls. What that means is that the forum is temporarily down.

Reaper of Souls (Diablo 3 Expansion)

With the announcement of Diablo 3’s expansion “Reaper of Souls”, one can only wonder what items will be worth stockpiling to make gold and real money on expansion release day. Let’s start off with the Crusader class, a new character we can play for Reaper of Souls. Since the Barbarian is the only Strength class in the game, and dexterity/intellect is covered twice by the other four classes, it makes sense that the Crusader will be a strength character. Therefore, you would be wise to stockpile legendary items of all levels that cater to strength and vitality. Think in terms of common leveling equipment like cain’s and born’s set. If you don’t have those yet, now is the time to buy these patterns! Especially with all the inflation going on in the game at the moment.
There will be a lot of new players who come to Diablo 3 because of the expansion. For this reason, low level crafting materials will naturally rise in price. More importantly, we may finally see a use for Fiery Brimstones, as I believe Blizzard will use this opportunity to raise their price on the auction house. People could also use them to level their blacksmith up, so there’s that. Other high end crafting materials in the game currently will see a temporary rise in price as people power level the blacksmith. So be sure to stockpile those now while they are so cheap (don’t forget tomes).
Until we learn more, we won’t know how to proceed. But if you do manage to get a few cain’s pieces with max strength on them… save those for later!Your Gold Guide is Waiting!

3 Fastest Ways to Make Money in Diablo 3

The Reaper of Souls Expansion is coming and a lot of people are coming back to this blog to read my thoughts on it. Despite there being very little information on the expansion released so far, you can find a few speculation tips from this blog post on how to make gold and prepare for the Diablo 3 Expansion. For the moment, a lot of people are coming back to Diablo 3 because of the expansion's announcement, and that means easy sales for those of us who understand the three fastest ways to make gold and money in Diablo 3.

Believe it or not you can make money in Diablo 3 with a level 1 character who doesn't even play the game. You buy (or preferably bid) low and then sell your items at a discount (compared to normal values). The problem with this strategy is that I can't just give you a generic guide to making money/gold and then send you packing. You need experience to back up the knowledge I disseminate to this audience.

So if you did know everything about this game already, you could simply buy a bunch of gold, take the gold to buy items on the gold auction house, then sell the items on the RMAH for more than what you started with.

You can get to the point where this is all you do, but first, you need to learn what stats players want, which items work best for which builds, etc. There are three stages to learning this information, that I cover extensively in the gold guide and accompanying private forum.

1. Farming Normal on MP10

Running around killing monsters at will without a thought for which items are worth picking up to sell and which should be salvaged will not help you very much here. Use my guide, or slowly figure it out on your own, to understand which stats players want at these levels. It's a low supply, super high demand market that anyone can succeed in. You can even flip items at this bracket without actually farming because so many people miss-price them on the auction house.

2. Flip Leveling Legendaries

Whether you craft these or find them through farming in game / auction house, you need to understand why players want certain legendaries over others. Don't forget a few tips for this market:

- Level 48 is the start of -18 reduced level requirement items. These will destroy most legendaries pre-level 58. Some items do not have the level reduced stat and tend to sell very well around level 48.
- Search by time left to see items ending soon.
- Put whatever stats you can search for that players want into the search criteria, but understand that sometimes you will need to browse through pages to find the best stuff because it's not possible to search it. See the legendary blueprint in the gold guide for a run down of every legendary in the game and how to search for the best deals.
- Crafting is a great way to get leveling legendaries. If you can afford it, buy the cain's or borne's set at the very least.

3. End Game Items

You really need to have a grasp on character builds (try Gimmic's guide for tons class specific builds and tips) in order to know which legendaries players desire at max level. Do your homework and read up on strategy guides throughout the internet. The more popular the strategy, the more likely you will be able to sell the items associated with it. Many of the players who reveal their strategies have the items already on their character (if it's the blizzard forums) or specify example item setups in their write ups. Pay close attention to this information and see if you can't make money off your research.

All three of these fastest ways to make money in Diablo 3 require that you understand the fees in this game. Please check out my gold guide for the latest gold to money conversion math that will show you the amount of money you want to sell an item for instead of gold and vice versa. This will help you avoid any embarrassing losses due to not understanding the fees and how they affect your profit calculations. Prepare for the End of the Diablo 3 Auction House

The Diablo 3 auction house is coming to a close. On the forums you can discuss our last thread here. I'll be posting there along with everyone else on how to play the final weeks of the auction house.

1. Get Crusader Leveling Loot

This includes things like cain's set.

2. Get Patterns

Waiting for patterns to drop is going to be a nightmare. Get them now while you can.

3. Sell Your Gold

Gold is going to become worthless over time, just as it is now. Once we no longer need the items that gold can get us (crafting) then we always end up item hunting while simultaneously hoarding gold.

4. Get Your Bnet Balance to Paypal

Unless you plan on spending Bnet Balance on other Blizzard games like world of warcraft, get all of your Bnet Balance over to paypal immediately.

5. Stockpile Rare Items

Some items will be considered novelty items which everyone will want after the auction house is gone. The murlocket, wirt's leg, etc. Add some of those to your inventory before farming is the only way.

What will I be doing once the auction house is gone? Creating my own. I want to create the safest, least expensive alternative to trading with other players. I'll keep you up to date as I work on coding this new auction house. The forum will be morphed into something greater and I'll need to find a way to compensate the members who currently have forum time beyond the end of the auction house.

Replacement Diablo 3 Auction House

My plan for replacing the Diablo 3 Auction House is as follows:

1. Advertise Your Items
I'll provide a platform for advertising items you have for sale. Full descriptions and stats can be stored, which will enable someone to search for your "auction" which is really more like an advertisement. Purchasing your first auction slot will be a trivial amount of money, like 25 cents, just to keep robots away from the site. This slot is re-usable, and can be changed at any time to display a new item you'd like to sell. Getting additional slots will cost a larger amount but will not be required to use the auction house.

2. Safe Communication
If a buyer is interested in your auction, they can click on your auction and send you a message. This message will be masked on my end so that neither the buyer or seller have to share personal information. From here you can negotiate the sale.

3.  Find What You Need
Through a series of search options, players will be able to sift through items on my auction house quickly and efficiently. They can then message sellers without revealing their personal information.

What do you think? This way I will not have to worry about the legal ramifications of helping players to purchase Diablo 3 items, since in essence I'll be selling communication and nothing more.Your Gold Guide is Waiting!

Triple Your Gold in Patch 2.0.1

Looking at the 2.0.1 ptr patch notes, I can quickly see a method for tripling your invested gold after this patch goes live. Provided that it occurs before march 18th... when the auction house turns off forever. Hopefully, I will be able to implement my own custom auction house.

As you know, the auction house will soon be leaving us, but not before providing us with this last epic chance to speculate.

White and blue items will salvage into 1-3 crafting materials instead of just one. WOAH. So if I salvage blue items that I buy now for less than 300 gold, they will sell for 800-2400 gold in subtle essences. Not to mention all the level 60 magic items I could flip from 150 gold to 1000-3000 gold each.

While a 1000 gold now a days isn't a lot, filling every bag slot you own with these could turn a nice profit! You could buy 210 single slot items (like rings and amulets) to place in your bank tabs, let alone all your alts with their bank space. So, theoretically, you could be making 420,000 gold from your bank tabs alone when the patch hits.

Just buy the items now as they show up! Obviously some people look at 420,000 gold and scoff at how little it is... but that's a good amount of money for any new players. And it will only cost like 50,000 gold to do!

In other news, all the legendary items are being revamped... which means big profit opportunities for crafting. They are also changing how much things cost to craft, but that probably won't be enough to raise the price of crafting materials since we'll be getting double the drops from salvaging.

Get ready for a crafting frenzy once the patch hits! Do your best to buy these recipes before the auction house is gone forever.

Right now gold is selling for over $2, so I say now is the time to unload your cash in one last hurrah! Thank you Blizzard for letting so many of us make a killing from your game!

Preparing for Reaper of Souls

I've been playing a lot of Diablo 3 while I wait for Reaper of Souls to come out. Here is a list of what I'm doing (and what you should too).

1. Making Real Money on the RMAH

Come on, this was a given. The auction house is going away and right now gold is super expensive! The price is almost $3 per 50 million and so I'm hustling on both auction houses to turn a profit. What I've seen so far is that the low level stuff for leveling is doing phenominally well. Also the level 60 high stat rares for gloves, shoulders, rings and amulets. We're talking just straight up vitality, primary stat, and any damage affixes possible for the item (crit chance and damage for rings/amulets/gloves). People are gearing out their characters quickly for the expansion and paying good amounts of gold/money to do so.

Use my guide and apply it to mid level items as well as max level rares. The legendary blueprint is still king on the guide, despite its age.

2. Get Your Hell Fire Rings.

Do the current end game content over and over again until you have tons of hell fire rings. You especially want a strength one for the Crusader hero that's coming with the Reaper of Souls expansion.

3. Hit Paragon Level 100

If you get well geared and equip a hell fire ring, you should be able to do monster power 5-7 quickly and efficiently to level up to 100 paragon. For each character you max out, Blizzard is going to reward you with additional paragon levels in the expansion. The conversion is small, in favor of the new paragon levels, but worth doing while you farm for items.
